We’re always on the lookout for crazy things happening in the luxury world – and this piece particularly caught our eye.

Turns out Israeli jewellery company Yvel is designing the world’s most expensive coronavirus face mask at the request of one of their clients.

The mask, which is due to be completed at the end of the year, will be decorated with more than 3,600 white and black diamonds and be worth $1.5m.

The mask will weigh 270g and will – at least – be functional, fitted with N99 filters at the client’s request.

“Money maybe doesn’t buy everything, but if it can buy a very expensive Covid-19 mask and the guy wants to wear it and walk around and get the attention, he should be happy with that,” Yvel commented.

If commissioning a bespoke mask isn’t your thing – there’s always the option of buying your diamond-clad face gear off the shelf. Jaco & Co has created a face mask adorned with 3,040 round-cut white diamonds, that costs more than a house (at approx. £189,000). The creator calls the mask “a way to escape the ordinary world and revel in extravagance”. We agree with the extravagance part!
