I’ve recently had the pleasure of creating the title sequence for a film called Tantric Tourists, which is being featured at the East End Film Festival this week. The brief was to create something fun and chaotic, and I wanted it to also hint at the clash of cultures as a number of American tourists transcend into India on a quest for enlightenment. The film features many of your expected cliches including a guy who brings a suitcase full of food (which he can then fill with shopping once he’s eaten the contents) but also some interesting insights…
The project grew from creating animations for maps of their journeys through India on various modes of transport and lower thirds for the interviews to the title sequence itself. I could also transfer the artwork from the titles to a Poster design and postcards and create a bit of an identity. Seeing a film move along from its rough cut all the way through post production has been fascinating, and offered some insight into the huge efforts and processes involved, not least the ridiculous ups and downs including Ruby Wax confirming herself as narrator only to be taken ill in Cambodia and unable to make it AFTER all posters going to print. Steven Berkoff’s now onboard though, so all is not lost!
All in all though, a pretty awesome project. To see these wonderful animations you’ll have to come to th Genesis cinema in Mile End on friday 18th April…for one night only! And you can see the film at the same time, all for just £6.50… what a bargain!
