Oculus Rift, the virtual reality (VR) headset seen by many as the flagbearer of the budding technology, has launched to UK consumers this week.
Initially released in March 2016 in the USA, the Oculus Rift VR headset has now been made available to UK consumers through a number of retailers including John Lewis, Currys PCWorld and Amazon for £549. The headset has been bundled with an Xbox wireless controller and a VR platform game called Lucky’s Tale, highlighting how gaming has established itself as one of VR’s critical drivers during its infancy. If the technology continues to gather pace as expected, however, we could start to see VR becoming far more integrated into our lives. Immersive 360˚ video experiences are already proving to be highly effective tools for brands on social media, so it will be exciting to see how brands can start to adopt VR to further drive engagement with consumers.
